Afton Steinhoff, GSW, LGSW
Afton is a licensed Licensed Graduate Social Worker and obtained her Master’s in Social Work with a concentration in Clinical Mental Health from the University of Wisconsin Madison. She received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire with a double major in Social Work and Spanish.
Afton is a trained provider for the Adaptive Internal Relational (AIR) Network model, which approaches therapy from a competency based, relational perspective that has a foundation in developmental neurology. Afton has also been trained in Brainspotting and is working under a mentor. Afton draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Solution-Focused Therapy in her work.
She has experience working with individuals, couples, and families.
Afton is competent to work with clients who have experienced complex trauma, post-traumatic stress, anxiety, depression, and dissociation.
Her work helps clients to build upon their resiliency, utilize their strengths, and live in alignment with their values in order to reach their full potential. Afton’s work with clients is centered in a collaborative and respectful approach that believes in the ability and process of healing. Through her sensitivity towards others, she creates a safe place to exist without judgement, while being direct yet compassionate in her approach. Through a holistic and integrative approach Afton values assisting clients understand the connection between their brain neurology, emotions, and body, providing psychoeducation to empower clients.
