Meghan Clifford, PsyD, LP
Licensed Psychologist
Dr. Meghan Clifford (she/her) is a neuropsychologist with expertise in collaboratively assessing the neuropsychological functioning of children, adolescents, and adults who are experiencing impacts of their oftentimes complex medical, psychological, and social histories. Dr. Clifford has developed an area of expertise in assessing for the neuropsychological sequelae (after-effects) that can arise in those who have histories of stressful and traumatic experiences. She also has a specialized ability to assess for posttraumatic stress responses, including dissociative abilities. She has worked with internationally and domestically adopted children, as well as those in foster care, residential settings, and with individuals who are incarcerated. Dr. Clifford also has specialized training in working with individuals who have complex medical histories such as, genetic differences, lysosomal storage diseases, childhood cancers, histories of hematopoietic stem cell transplants and chemotherapy/irradiation, congenital heart problems, brain injuries, prematurity, and prenatal and postnatal exposure to toxic substances (e.g., alcohol, lead). She also has competency in assessing individuals with developmental delays, ADHD, learning and language disorders, and complex neuropsychiatric conditions (e.g., anxiety, depression, and schizophrenia).
In addition to neuropsychological evaluation, Dr. Clifford is trained in multiple therapeutic modalities including the Adaptive Internal Relational (AIR) Network Model, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT), as well as other cognitive behavioral therapies for the treatment of a range of difficulties presenting in children, adolescents, and adults.
At the center of her practice, Dr. Clifford strives to hold multicultural awareness and the belief that those she is working with (and their caregivers) are doing the best they can with the resources they have. As a provider she uses humor and education and aims to be transparent and open while acknowledging that building a therapeutic relationship can take time and be difficult to develop given one’s past experiences. Dr. Clifford believes in the innate courage, strength, and grit that exist in each person. She acknowledges that a person’s past experiences and relationships can make it harder to hear and know their ‘real’ self and supports those she is working with to find their purpose, discover what they love and value, and build a caring relationship with themself and their body.
Dr. Clifford also provides training and consultation to clinicians providing neuropsychological and psychological assessment services. She has a passion for helping clinicians understand the unique and varied ways that traumatic stress responses 'show up' in a person's life amongst other complex presentations.
Education and Training Experiences:
Dr. Clifford completed a 2-year APPCN accredited postdoctoral fellowship specializing in pediatric neuropsychology in the Division of Clinical Behavioral Neuroscience at the University of Minnesota Medical School. Prior to her fellowship, she completed an APA accredited clinical internship at the University of Minnesota Medical School where she completed rotations in pediatric neuropsychology, child and adolescent psychiatry and behavioral sciences, and pediatric psychology. She earned her Psy.D. in Counseling Psychology at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota in 2019.
